Membership Rules & Guidelines
- All faculty, staff, and graduate students belonging to the University of Iowa, regardless of identity, can request to join the Latinx Council.
- There is no term-limit for membership, however, members should try to attend at least 2 meetings or events per semester. It is common that inactive members are removed from the online membership list after long periods of inactivity, as well as for people to come back and re-join during times when availability increases.
- Meeting invites are sent via Outlook Calendar to each member, and the schedule can be viewed online.
- Employees and graduate students who are not members, but who are still interested in attending meetings are welcomed to do so.
To join:
Send an email to the public relations officer listed on the membership list. Include in the subject line “MEMBER REQUEST FOR LATINX COUNCIL”, and include in the email:
- Name, Title, Department
- Attach a photo to be used for your member profile
Executive Committee Elections:
Executive Committee Members are elected in the Spring semester every two years by a voting process available for all Latinx Council Members to participate in.
Any active member of the council can self-nominate or nominate other members to serve on the executive committee during an open election period. Nominees with the most votes will be appointed (upon acceptance) to begin service in August of the academic year.
Committee Responsibilities:
The elected committee members serve for a 2-year term, working together to organize meetings, attend additional advisory meetings with constituents and other campus thought-leaders, oversee communication between the members of the council, the latinx council listserv, and the campus community, etc.
Meet monthly to network, collaborate, build community, and share our rich cultures.
Collaborate with other diversity councils and leadership across campus.
Serve in an advisory capacity to University leadership on important issues affecting campus.
Support and celebrate the success of Latinx people through various opportunities throughout the year.
Make connections and share memories on and off campus.
